Costing training

Introduction

There are several types of training typically included in literacy programs:

See:

Training literacy personnel

Most literacy programs require more training than included in the initial program plan. You need to plan an amount for this contingency so that initial training can be extended or added later as follow-up in-service trainingtraining.

All training events have approximately the same set of cost factors.

Cost factors

Here are some cost factors for training in your literacy program:

  • People in your program who may need training such as

    • surveyors
    • teachers
    • supervisors and coordinators
    • promoters and mobilizers
    • technical personnel
    • materials developers and writers
    • administrative personnel, and
    • liaison and public relations personnel.
  • Other factors such as

    • degree of staff redundancy desired
    • public relations, and
    • licensing or certification of teachers
  • Specialized training in large programs that involves less typical costs such as

    • supervisor training
    • coordinator training
    • specialty training for staff such as bookkeepers, computer operators, and managers
    • training for people to manage local institutions, and
    • consultants or trainers to help with these events.
