| Summary | |
|
Presents a theory of the basic principles of operation built into the cognitive system concerning higher-level cognition or thought. Major presupposition is that higher-level cognition constitutes a unitary human system. Central issue in higher-level cognition is control--what gives thought its direction and what controls transition from thought to thought. Production systems are directed at central issue. Major concern is to understand principles behind thought control in a way that exposes the adaptive function of the principles (page ix). | |
