Lithgow, Daphne. 1988. "Group design of a primer." READ: Promoting Literacy and Literature.

Summary

In 1986, the author held a two-week writers workshop with the translation committee of the Auhelawa language. Found they had definite ideas about what was needed for their people. Wanted an Auhelawa primer for their two community schools. Since Dobu (the trade language) was less well known among Auhelawa school children than elsewhere in the area, they wanted general mother tongue reading materials to follow. Elementary Auhelawa dictionary and grammar were already in print, produced by a Catholic priest working in the language. In addition, a small book of Scripture containing Colossians and Matthew's account of Christ's passion and resurrection was printed.
