Summary
 

Bilingual education program may be divided into the following phases:

 
  • A transition, mother tongue phase
  • A truly bilingual phase in which both the mother tongue language and the standard (regional or national) language are used
  • A phase which is reached when the pupils' competence in the standard language is sufficient for special materials to be no longer required
