Summary
 

Bases narrative-expository study of children's language development on a 15-year research project in Bristol, England. Researchers began with a representative sample of 128 children who were 15--18 months old. Continued with 32 of the original group for nine years through their elementary education. Study ended when the children were approximately 10 years and three months old. In reporting research results, Wells chose six of the 32 children for special attention and delineated their progress in some depth.
