Evaluation

In Chapter 3, a local Aguaruna educator-administrator in Peru's bilingual school system describes Aguaruna history. For centuries his people received wisdom, laws, prohibitions, and specific capabilities from their ancestors to gain respect in their society. Describes the Aguaruna economic system (trading and sharing make an equal society) and their traditional form of government.

Discusses how the Aguaruna lifestyle changed as outsiders entered their area seeking rubber and gold. Motivated by problems from outside domination, some Aguaruna learned to read and write. In 1953, Daniel Dçnduchu became the first bilingual school teacher. Within five years, other young men became teachers and established more schools. Subsequently, the Aguaruna became full participants in Peruvian society.
